Who knows? Was this even a law enforcement officer who had the authority to arrest you? Perhaps they're continuing to investigate and hoping to tie you to other charges.

It is also likely they don't want to arrest you so they won't have to advise you of your right to remain silent and your right to have an attorney. Officers often play this game, then arrest the person after he or she has confessed or made other damaging statements.

If you are questioned again, politely say you will not answer any questions unless you have an attorney present -- then STICK TO IT.

Why? Because he isn't ready to yet. No amount of free 'tips and hints' from here or anywhere else are going to help you in your defense, other than the advice to exercise your 5th Amendment right to SHUT UP and do not talk to anyone except your attorney about your case. If you are in SoCal, and are serious about hiring counsel, feel free to contact me.
