Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

hi i need some legal help/advise.. i was recently arrested and charged with 4463 (a)1. I was booked and signed a form admitting the charges against me. They imponded my car and i was released on bail. My court date is 2 months from now and I don't know what to do. I have 1 conviction when i was a minor, I am 35 years old now and my record has been clean since ... because of this felony conviction I cannot return to work. I have little or no money for legal service..I would really appreciated some guidance on where to start. I am trying to avoid jail time... Am i in any position to negotiate a plea bargain with DA before my court date? Any advice is gratefully appreciated! thank you..

Admitting your guilt was a *very* bad idea. That will make it much harder to negotiate any sort of plea deal. You might have a chance if you get a lawyer to represent you, but you almost certainly have none on your own.

If you can't afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed for you at public expense.

Good luck.

Presumably, what you signed was a promise to appear, not an admission of 'guilt'. If you had done that, it would have been at court, and there would be no pending hearing. You obviously need an attorney to protect you from making serious mistakes in handling this. Get one, or apply to the Public Defender if you can't afford private counsel. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.

Get an attorney, get an attorney, get an attorney, get an attorney, get an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, ask the court to appoint the public defender to represent you.
