Probation/parole violation is not taken lightly by courts. With a really good explanation of 'need' like you state, his attorney might be able to negotiate with the court and DA to get him reinstated to probation instead of put in jail. If this is in SoCal courts, feel free to contact me if serious about getting counsel.

What a judge will do with people who violated probation can vary immensely and will depend on a lot of different factors. Among them will be the individual character of the judge, the location where the case is heard (conservative or liberal county and courthouse?), how good your lawyer is and pretty much everything else including the individual specific circumstances of your husband's life and specific case. In short, there is no way to answer this question via e-mail. You and your husband need to consult with a couple of defense lawyers to get a more informed opinion. Most lawyers will consult with you for free.
