Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Does the local, state or federal police have any authority to conduct an investigation when no crime has been reported? During this investigation, are they allowed to use your name when questioning people? I am being investigated by a federal police officer who is calling underage girls that are part of my youth organization and asking them if they've ever been alone with me or if I did anything inappropriate with them. This is causing quite a stir and parents are wanting to pull their kids because they think I'm a pedophile now. I've done nothing, no one has complained that I did anything and there is no victim. It seems to be a one-man investigation by a rogue cop, Defense Logistics Agency, who seems hellbent on destroying my reputation and career.

For starters, there is never any investigation without someone filing a complaint, whether you know about it or not. Instead of complaining about the investigators, take the situation seriously; get legal defense counsel ASAP, take counsel's advise about your own defense investigation and contact with parties, and in the meantime exercise your 5th Amendment rights to SHUT UP.
