Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Medical ID Fraud

I lived with an ex boyfriend for several years. Towards the later part of the relationship, he used my identity and insurance to check into hospitals to get medical services. My company-provided health insurance was billed for a lot of services. Now, I have numerous medical collections on my credit reports for the services that were not covered by insurance. Ive known about this for several months, but I dont know what to do. The medical collection are in excess of $11,000! In some ways I feel bad because he has health problems, but I know what he did was wrong. Now, I feel like Im being punished because my credit is now destroyed. What are the consequences of filing a police report at this time, instead of doing it when I first found out about this many months ago? Also Im worried because I didnt notify my insurance that this was going on when I first found out about this.

Re: Medical ID Fraud

you should be worried. Your insurance company could assert civil or criminal fraud charges against you if they can show you knew and took no action to prevent the fraud - i.e. participated in the fraud. You should get an attorney to help you dig out of this mess and reach some agreement with the insurance company and creditors to avoid or minimize or structure the debts.
