Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Misdemeaner For Petty Theft

I got caught for shoplifting (484 P.C.) a mechandise in Anaheim, CA (Downtown Disney to be more specific). The item is valued at $275, but it was recovered. I am a 23 year old student, and this is my first time getting into trouble with the law. I have a question I need help getting answered.

1) Does anyone know or is there anyway I could get into a Diversion program offered by the City Attorney of Anaheim? They had it all on camera. As i mentioned before, I am currently attending UCLA and work as a Spanish Instructor. I have a clean record and have never done anything like this. My lack of judgement in the matter and the stress ive been in hindered my thinking. I have not been able to sleep and hardly eat. I know what i did is wrong and it is my responsibilities. My friend said he would get me a lawyer, but I'm still waiting to hear back and I want to get the best answers. Any help would be appreciated.

I know these are alot of questions I am asking but this is my first time I got into any trouble like this and am scared of how my future is going to end up because of a stupid decision I made. Thanks for your time and any advice would be appreciated.

Your friend gave you the best advice. It's time to consult one on one with an attorney in your area. Diversion may be an option, but it is not just going to be offered to you. You will need to have someone on your side who knows the ins and outs of the court.

You need a CLEAN RECORD out of this if you want to work again. Hire a lawyer and make sure the lawyer is there with you on your FIRST COURT DATE.

Diversion and classes may be an option, as is a plea bargain, as is a civil compromise with the store. All depend upon your attorney being able to negotiate them with the DA and court and store. If serious about getting legal counsel in this to help you try to avoid jail and deportation, feel free to contact me.
