I have a misdemeanor battery charge on my record from California. I'm not allowed to own or possess a firearm for 10 years. Can I own a firearm outside the state?

It depends on the specifics of the underlying charge. If you have a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence, federal law prohibits you from owning or possessing a firearm. Federal law would trump any state law, and apply in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
