misdemeanor petty theft

i recieved a misdemeanor petty theft charge in 02/2005, I want to apply for a retail job but so far they do a 7 year background check, what can i do?

Like most convicted thieves, you are going to have problems finding work. I would focus your job search efforts away from the retail sector.

You should "expunge" your conviction which legally will allow you to say you have not been convicted on any job application. Expungement should also eliminate the conviction from at least some of the databases private employers use. You might get lucky and slip through the cracks so to speak.
