Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was given a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana (less than an ounce) HS 11357. The officer that gave me the ticket told me about informal diversion, and the possibility of getting it taken off my record. He also said that if I took the initiative to complete this before my trial date, it will also look better. Where can I find diversion programs/classes?

Don't get your legal advice from the police. If I were you I would plead not guilty and demand a jury trial. You have absolutely nothing to lose except maybe $250 in fines; you might win; and you'd save yourself the hassle and cost of some "diversion" program. Also, Prop 19 might pass and in such event they might decide to drop your case. Please feel free to call me.

Generally the diversion programs will not enroll you without a court order. You should deal with it normally, and have your attorney negotiate a plea bargain for you to divert and have the charges dismissed upon successful completion. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.
