With no priors and with good counsel, you should be able to get a deal with little or no jail time, with 'modest' fines in the hundreds of dollars. The court generally will allow time payments. . After probation is successfully completed, without further crimes, you should be able to get the record expunged.

Misdemeanor's can carry a $ 5K fine and up to a year in jail. It will remain on your record. I have been able to have many misdemeanors reduced to infractions. I practice in Orange County and L.A. County Courts. Call me directly at 16192223504, you will not even have to appear.

While you don't tell us anything about the facts of the theft (such as who it was from and the retail value of the stuff), whether you made or signed any admissions, etc., you're probably not looking at a jail sentence in LA County. Fines can vary, again depending on the facts of the case. Probation is likely to be ordered. Getting a conviction "cleared" from your record is usually possible after the probation ends. However, avoiding or reducing the conviction at this point is better than just pleading to the offense and "clearing" it later.
