Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
!
My nephew XXXXX quit his job 4 months ago. He lives with his sister so he does not have an address other than a private mail box. We just found over the weekend that his ex boss had reported to the police 3 months ago that XXXXX may have stolen some items from his business. We have heard through a friend that the police had tried to contact him but had no known address or phone number. It's not like he's hiding! He has a new job and does not use an alias or use a false Social Security number - he lives and works in XXXXXX county now. We do not know for sure if charges were filed and if there's a warrant for my nephew's arrest. There may be for all we know. Why haven't the police attempted to make an arrest? Do ALL arrest warrants result in actual arrests? There must be over a 100 thousand crimes comitted in Los Angeles county! Do the police arrests all of those suspects? Don't the police have priorites like murder or robbery or rape before going after someone charged stealing under 5,000 bucks or less?? I just can't picture the L.A. cops spending tons of resources to find my nephew when there's bigger fish to fry! I do not condone what he has done and I have told him to get a GOOD lawyer!

If the police have tried to find Matt, but haven't been able to locate him, they will often issue a warrant, and just wait until he gets stopped for speeding or something, then find the warrant and arrest him on it. A criminal lawyer should be able to track the investigation down and determine whether or not he has a warrant. Or, they may find him and arrest him at his work. Of course, they have bigger fish to fry, but there are enough of them and they go after ALL the fish. He will most likely be caught sometime, and the better course is to determine what's happening and take care of it now, voluntarily. That will look better to the court, and will give Matt the certainty that he needs so he doesn't have to feel like he's a fugitive for the rest of his life. If you or he would like to talk to me, please don't hesitate to call for a free consultation. Steve Mandell 310 393 0639.

IF there is a warrant, he will be arrested the first time he comes in contact with police, like a traffic stop. He needs to hire counsel to at least determine if there is a warrant, and to deal with the police and DA. Tell him not to talk to anyone, police or otherwise, without his lawyer present. Have him contact us if interested in staying out of jail if at all possible.
