Parolee held hostage by police until his fiancee locates a fugitive

My fiancee is a parolee we share a two car garage with the tenant next door to us. We have a mutual key to a mutual space where stolen property was found by police. The items in question were on our neighbors side of the garage in his things. Police ran the numbers on everything we own in the house and everything was clean, we gave them the key to the garage and they searched the neighbor's side rather than ours. My fiancee was arrested for receiving stolen property 2 days later. Detectives told me if I did not find the neighbor's son who is a fugitive my fiancee would go to prison for 3 years for the above stated crime. I was unable to locate the man, and my fiancee is now in County jail with a parole hold and court date in 2 days. We are truly innocent, detectives know we are. Neighbor admitted to us they were his things, said he told detectives too. I was released before court but he was held over. I am terrified. I keep thinking we are innocent so they will release him but it doesn't look like they are going to release him. I suppose my question is, can they really do what they are threatening to do? Why didnt they just take fingerprints? How can they continue to hold an innocent man?
