What happens to a person if they do not show up in court after being subpoena to appear?

If you are a witness, the court could fine you, and/or issue a warrant for your arrest; if the paper you received was a summons or a small claims order to appear, you could lose your case, and your wages, money and property could be taken by the sheriff. It really depends on the type of case.
