Penal Code 311.1(a) is a "wobbler" that can be charged as a felony with a maximum prison term of three years, or a misdemeanor with up to a year in county jail. Either way, a person convicted of this offense will be required to register as a sex offender.

No responsible attorney would speculate on the likely sentence without a complete review of all of the police reports and other evidence. That additional information is NOT something you should post on the Internet where anyone, including the prosecutor and police, could see it.

You need a lawyer who can confidentially discuss the facts of your case and give you meaningful advice. If you can't afford to hire your own attorney, the judge will appoint the public defender when you go to court.

More importantly, no attorney would allow you to 'turn yourself in' unless you had already been charged with the crime and facing arrest.
