Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
petty theft crime @ 20 years of age
I didn't get a job because I have the following petty theft crime on my record. At that time in my life, I was being a stupid idiot rebelling the authority. I stole a cooked chicken from a Safeway store and got caught. I spent 4 days in jail for it. I am 25 now and I have turned my life around. Is there any way to get it removed from my record?
Will it ever go away?

It won't go away on its own, but the conviction can probably be expunged - meaning the conviction is set aside and a dismissal entered - with proper motion and pleadings to the court, and if you completed all terms of probation. If so, feel free to contact me for legal help doing so.

Theft offenses have a nasty way of hanging around forever, but for many purposes a prior conviction can be expunged. Misdemeanors for which you have completed probation are automatic, you fill out the form and pay a fee. Afterwards the arrest and conviction never happened as far as the courts are concerned, and you are entitled to fill out the job forms as if they never happened, unless you are applying for certain government jobs.
