Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
petty theft and livescans
I have 2 petty theft misdemeanors from1989 and 1991 in CA which were fingerprinted. My record has been clean since. I received expungements on both about 6 years ago. I am currently seeking a job that requires a livescan. I was wondering if these would show up even though they are old and expunged.
I regret this every day and I'm worried so any professional answers would be appreciated.

Expungements allow you to legally and truthfully answer "no" to the question whether you were convicted. The convictions might or might not show up in the background check done by the employer depending upon the database they are using. If convictions appear, they will show up as expunged. The employer will decide whether they will disqualify you.

Of course they they 'show up'. Records are forever. But, they show as convictions that were expunged. Whether they disqualify you from employment is up to the employer.
