Public defender lawyer needed before arrainment apperance in court

My friend have arraingement on July 23rd for penalty code of 273a Child endanger for shop lifting when her daughter was with her. She is poor . How does she get public defender which is no charge to her before she appear in court and asked the judge for public defender to represent her.

Before arraignment she doesn't. Ask at arraignment.

she should get a public defender on the date of arraignment. In some courts, they tell them to come back at the next court date for a pretrial and she will speak to the public defender before court on that second appearance. Either way she won't get the public defender before the first court date. hese are serious charges and i recommend seeing an attorney in or near the area. It might be less thatn you think.
