Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Public Defender
I worked for a Harley Davidson repair shop about 7 months back and was accused of not returning pretty expensive parts by the manager of the shop. She TOLD me to fess up and either return the parts or pay back the value of the parts - $875 bucks. Or she'll fire me and talk with the cops. I didn't want to lose my job so I returned a few of the parts and paid back the difference of $515 bucks. Guess what? She fired me anyway and the next week did report this to the cops! I have not yet been arrested or spoken to any cop. So since I can't afford legal representation is it best for me to wait to get arrested and charged and then be assigned a public defender? Or are there legal clinics out there for the financially disadvantaged??

Re: Public Defender
Sorry friend, but the Public Defender is your most likely option. Call the Lawyer Referral Service and ask for a 'limited means' attorney to see if you can get someone to take reduced fees. It is usually a new attorney, but not always.
