Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Getting record expunged or felony rerduced to mistameanor
I was arrested in the mid 1980's for felony possesion of cociane ! I recieved 180 days in the county (work release program ) and three years probation and a small fine ! I completed all of my requirements to the court. Since,I have not ever been arrested for any other crime ! Iam now married witht two young childen ,and find myself currently unemployed .I would be able to obtain a job at a card room as a floor man ,they make good $ and the job also has very good benifits ,it would save my marriage and give me back hope for my future ! One of the laws in the state of California is that any employee at any gambling establishment must have a anual background check on the records to see if thay have any past or present felony charges or convictions aginst them .This would be imediate grounds for release from employment ! Could you please tell me if it is possible to get this expunged from my record ,or reduced to a meastameanor ? Any help or advice ,would be greatly appreciated !
Thank You

Re: Getting record expunged or felony rerduced to mistameanor
Before you go through the time and expense of getting expungement for this purpose only, contact any casino/card house HR and ask them if you are disqualified from employment once you get it expunged. Make sure you ask questions until you are sure of the answer. If need be, follow up with the casino regulatory body, ask the casino for specific ID of what agency controls that aspect of employment.
Even if they can't employ you, the expungement is worthwhile for most private employment, so contact me if interested in getting it done right.
