Theoretically...once in the "computer it's there forever but...if it's a traffic infraction it's effect is governed by the dmv points scale against your cdl...if it's not traffic it really counts for nothing as it cannot be used to deny anything or used against you ( as in a probation violation)

Criminal records in California are generally permanent, however, if it is a misdemeanor you may qualify for an expungment.

Infractions are not considered crimes and they are not part of your criminal record. They appear in some kind of data bases I suppose but usually in a way which is separate from the way felonies and misdemeanors are kept track of.

If you are really talking about an infraction, I would not worry about it at all.
