The person driving who hit and ran is the one who should be convicted, but keep in mind that the owner is going to be a suspect.

The registered owners and the driver are 'responsible' and will get sued. The driver can be convicted of the crime. If you can prove you didn't allow the driver to use the car, that it was 'stolen' you can escape liability. That would require a stolen car report or other evidence. Contact your insurance company and follow their advice.
