Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

removal of misdemeanor from record

I have a misdemeanor from 1989 for shoplifting, code 484 PC (amount: $30 item). It has been expunged. At the time when I got this conviction, I was a new immigrant and spoke broken English. I was not given a translator and didn't get information on possible consequences to my immigration status. I was told by an attorney that my midemeanor can be removed by ''Coram Nobis''. I would like to speak to an experienced criminal attorney who would be willing to work on this.

You should be able to get this 'expunged' from your record and shown as a dismissed case, through a process of motion to the court. If granted, you can say 'no' to conviction on most employment applications. Feel free to contact me if serious about doing so. Corum Nobis is different and more costly, much less likely to be granted, with essentially the same outcome if successful.

Coram nobis is rarely sought. When it is sought, it is rarely granted. Whether you have a realistic shot at it will depend upon the facts and the procedural history of your case.
