Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

i had renters insurance & got robbed of all my tools & safe. after submitting the inventory list my insurance insisted that i have receipts. i couldnt produce any because they were stolen in my safe so i made a fake receipt online.meanwhile they offered me $200 for $30,000 of my things.i refused the settlement & later they told me they were aware of the receipt being fake so they were only going to compensate me for the minimal things i had real receipts for. they havent mentioned it since but will i go to jail for submitting fake receipts even tho i didnt accept the settlement check?

You could have solved this by having pictures or video of the inventory to prove possession. That is what they receipts were for. People with gun, jewelry and art collections keep detailed pictures for insurance purposes, you could have too, but I admit most people don't think of it until too late. If you had credible witness declarations as to inventory contents, you could try that now. But, you really screwed up and poisoned their attitude by submitting fake docs and getting caught. Unlikely they will prosecute, since they offer to pay something.
