Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
restitution amounts
What does the court base their restitution amounts on? Trial fees?
Our son was ordered to pay 6,500. We do not know what that amount was for. Does a judge just pull a number out of a hat?

Re: restitution amounts
Asking us is of no value. You should have asked the DA and judge. All that was negotiable at the time, not now.

Re: restitution amounts
Restitution is normally based on the amount of harm to the victim (to whom the restitution will ultimately be paid). The court will usually hold a hearing after entry of judgment to determine the appropriate amount.
