Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
How does one go about retrieving an impounded vehicle when the owner is currently incarcerated and awaiting preliminary hearing (ie no visitors)? The sheriff's department (LASD) indicates that there needs to be a notarized release from owner, but he is (incarcerated) stating he would like us, his friends, to get his truck out of impound.

With difficulty, following the rules you just stated. Send the prisoner the documents to sign and get notarized by someone in the prison. Call the prison to make sure it can be done, or ask them how. .
