Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Sealing of Juvenile Records
Greetings,
Id like to have my juvenile records sealed. Its been 24 year since the arrest and its one of those old haunts from the past that Id prefer not coming up in discussions when background checks are conducted. Ive two questions Id greatly appreciate thoughts on.
1. I was not over the age of 16 and the arrest occurred in California. Does the petition to seal the records need to originate from that state and county where the arrest occurred or can it originate from the state in which I reside now?
2. Is there any value with having something expunged then sealed as it related to juvenile convictions? My concern here is with taking the route to expunge, the case/conviction is revisited. Being a minor Ive no idea if my parents completed all the terms of my probation. I honestly do not know what was agreed to and dont want something popping up now.
Thoughts are welcome..
Thank You.

Re: Sealing of Juvenile Records
Juvy records are already 'sealed' from public access, you just didn't know that. You could attempt actual purging of the records by motion to the court involved. With 24 years clean record, it is possible. You don't have to reside here, but must use local counsel.

You may seal the record and it is done by petition to the rendering Court. Your State of residence does not have jurisdiction over the records of the rendering Court.
