Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

A search warrent was searved at my home for sales of meth. They found a very small amount of meth in a baggy less than .5 . They also found a scale and some clean unused baggies. I had $2200.00. They took me to the station and held me over night then released me no charges and gave me a release paper that said not charged with anything just detained. Can they keep my money from me ? And can they hold everything they took for evidence for up to a year incase they want to file charges on me? I really need my money back to pay rent and other bills. Thank You in advance.

You can try to get your property back by written request served upon the police, and if refused, then by a motion to the court. No guarantees of success, because they can file on you anytime, as you were told. Your problem is that attorney fees to do the motion would eat up most of the money held.
