You MAY have statute defenses, depending upon when the crime was discovered and when charges were filed, but don't assume that, since prosecutors don't file charges with obvious defects. That would be a waste of their time. If serious about hiring counsel to help in this, feel free to contact me.
Prosecutors file cases with defects all the time. It's not clear what exact statute you have been accused of violating. There are different statutes of limitations, depending on the underlying charge. Murder, for example, has no statute of limitations, whereas most misdemeanor offenses have a one year statute.
If you want, send me a private e-mail of the charges, and I can give you the specific statute that governs.
