Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My sister was arrested, during a raid, for being in the same house as counterfeiters whom were counterfeiting money and credit cards. At this point I don't know if there were drugs also found, but it is a definite possibility. Other than a public drunkenness charge, this is her first offense. What sort of charges could she be facing and what possible sentence could she expect? Do judges generally look harshly upon this type of offense? Thank you for your time.

Your focus should be on getting her an experienced attorney, not speculating on what a judge or DA 'might' think. What happens to her will depends on all the facts and evidence. If she is charged with a crime, she should handle it properly by hiring counsel. If serious about doing so, have her contact me.

Being in the same house as counterfeiters is not a crime. *Being* a counterfeiter is. The same is true of being in the same house as someone who possesses drugs.

Without more information I could only speculate about what kind of charges might be brought against her. A more important question might be how many counts of each she might face. Counterfeiters can get very long sentences if they are convicted of many acts of counterfeiting.

Mr. Nelson is right. Your sister will need to get a lawyer if she is charged. She may want to start interviewing lawyers now.
