Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My son took my car out and crashed into a pole. He left the scene and made it safely home. The cops came the next morning and I lied to them saying I was the one driving.

All the other attorneys and I agree that you cannot speak to law enforcement again regarding this incident. If they want to speak with your son, he shouldn't speak with law enforcement either. No false claim should be made to insurance or you dig yourselves a deeper hole that you don't want to have to climb out of. You should speak to an expert criminal defense attorney. IF the police don't pursue criminal charges against you for 'false report' to police because they can't prove it, they will likely pursue 'leaving the scene' charges, and 'causing an accident' charges that will be on DMV record.

Your insurance will increase.

If arrested, follow the advice to exercise the 5th Amendment right to SHUT UP and do NOT talk to anyone except an attorney about the case [better late than never].
