Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Hi, My son, who is 18 and a senior recently got pulled over and was charged with the following violations.....23224a, 23222b, which is possion of about a gram of pot, and they had 4 unopened beers. He was not cited for being under the influence, which he was not. When he goes to court, and if he gets diversion, would that exclude him from getting either a state or federal grant for college?

I guess what I'm asking, when you enter diversion, do these violations go on your record.

Thanks, Steve

A gram of pot is an infraction and should not affect his life at all, assuming that's all he's charged with. He will only have to pay a fine.

Whatever he is convicted of will be 'on his record', FOREVER. So will the arrest. Records do not go away, get 'cleared', 'cleaned' or 'erased'. However, a minor drug case will not severely hamper him in today's world.
