In the state of California can a non violent felon attend Gunsmith school?

NO. No prohibited person, and that includes ALL felons. may own or possess any firearm or ammunition. It doesn't take any imagination to understand that holding and working on a gun is 'possession'. You would have learned at gunsmith school that you need a FFL to be a gunsmith, prohibited persons can not obtain a FFL, and gunsmiths must log into their required records all firearms being worked on "in their possession". A felon is not even allowed to touch a firearm or ammunition.

They could have the book learning portion, but they would not be allowed to be in possession of any firearms. Which raises the question of why bother with gunsmith school?
