Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Ex Stole, now selling my Personal Assets

I lived with my gf for 2 years, went

home for Xmas with just a carry-

on, & we broke up. I can't return to

the house (she owns it). She has the

keys to our storage unit, also. She

states she'd rather throw everything

away than return them to me. At least 3

times she said I could have them back,

so I flew to S. Cal from Oregon to get

them, only to have her change her mind

and only return a few broken odds and

ends.I 've tried legal letters asking for

the return of my things, which includes

irreplaceable family heirlooms, my

jewelry, personal items, all mymagazine

publishing business equipment:

highend scanners, digitalcameras,photo

printers, etc. Plus one of a kind

collections of rare cameras, lenses,

antique books/magazines plus other

photography items. It's been 8 months

now. All I've gotten back from her was

some clothes & a few pieces of my

collections. She has already sold my

scanner, printer & a $1,400 camera

lens on Ebay that I know of. She also

sells at flea markets.Do I go to the

police to file a report? I have receipts

& witnesses. This is in Laguna Niguel.

At least $60,000 worth of personal

assets.

Re: Ex Stole, now selling my Personal Assets

Why have you waited so long to seek advice with so much at stake?

Contact your ex's local police department immediately and tell them what has happened. You may also want to bring a civil suit and seek an injunction barring her from selling any more of your belongings, but you will have to do so in Oregon rather than here in California.

Good luck.

If the police don't resolve it completely, and they aren't likely to, then your only remaining remedy is a lawsuit and Temporary Restraining Orders from the court. The question is, how much are you willing to spend on this, and is it economically sensible? Feel free to contact me is serious about pursuing it.
