Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
theft by trick or trickoty
A scammer took $10 000 from me by fraud. I filed the criminal charges in the police department. They classified it as theft by trick or trickory. Now they say it might be a civil case. I need a legal description of the crime ''theft by trick or trickory.''

No, what you need is an understanding that a scam artist is seldom worth suing for 'fraud', because he won't be around to collect from after you've paid the fees and costs of litigation. Vigorously pursue the criminal charges and work with the DA to try to get a restitution order.
