You need to deal with this the right way, or you'll never get hired again, ever. Please call me directly and maybe we can go to court together.
Re: first time in trouble
Good Afternoon,
California Penal Code section 503 is punishable based on the level of the underlying theft. In your case, it sounds like a petty theft since the value of the items is only $160.
Petty theft is a misdemeanor in California and punishable by up to one year imprisonment in county jail or a hefty fine. Additionally, even a petty theft may subject you to a 4th waiver as well as a stay away order.

Re: first time in trouble
503 is 'embezzlement'. You describe shoplifting, a different charge section. Get an attorney to represent you in dealing with this, to minimize the risk of the jail and fines you face. If this is in SoCal, feel free to contact me.
Re: first time in trouble
If this is indeed your first offense ever, and the amount of theft/embezzlement is $160, your chances of resolving this situation without creating permanent criminal record are decent. Hire a dedicated and effective lawyer. While you are not likely to go to jail under any circumstances, your record and your future are worth fighting for.
