Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was out of town, I had someone looking after my house. His son called the sheriff on him for some reason? I have not been told why exactly. Anyway, the sheriff's took my gun for safe keeping? I called them and they have not returned my call. What can I expect from all this?

Return of your property, gun, will likely require at least a written request to the Sheriff stating all the facts and showing ownership. It possibly might require a Petition or Motion for return made to the local court.

If the firearm is 'legally' owned and possessed by you, was 'safely' stored, and it is not being held as evidence in a crime investigation, it should be returned.

If it was stored in a manner that minors could get access to it, then you could potentially face that criminal charge.
