unlawful detainment
is it illegal to detain a suspect in front of their house for 4 plus hours

You would prefer to have been taken to jail? You can be arrested and held 72 hours on 'suspicion' before charges must be brought, or you released.

You would prefer to have been taken to jail? You can be arrested and held 72 hours on 'suspicion' before charges must be brought, or you released. Unless the detention was in some outrageous or violent manner, etc., it does not give rise to claims.

Unfortunately, yes. In most situations detention will be deemed legal.
