Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
We-Tip false allegation
To whom it may concern,
I was falsely accused of committing a crime via an anonymous tip to the police. I was subsequently banned from volunteering at my local school or contacting members of the faculty whom I have known for over 25 years.
I have waited nearly two months for a police investigation, but to date the detectives have not contacted the only ''witness'' named in the report.
Below are my two questions:
1. Do police have the right to drag out this case for months or years without filing charges?
2. Should an attorney contact the police to find out what is responsible for the delay?
Thank you very much.

Re: We-Tip false allegation
Hire counsel immediately to investigate the issues on your behalf.
As to the permissible length of the police "investigation" there is no real time limit. And, may be over.

YOU should not contact the police, but, yes, your attorney should. Feel free to contact me if serious about protecting yourself and your interests in this.
