Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Please Help
I will try to keep this short, I am a U.S. citizen of 19 years of age I let my cousin use my indentity to find a job at a big store. He was caught stealing and charged with two felonies. My question to you is what you suggest I do that is favorable for both of us. I obviously do not want a criminal record. please help me I dont know what to do.

Re: Please Help
Don't make any statements to the authorities and hire a lawyer immediately. You may contact my office, if you choose, or find someone in your area that specializes in criminal law. This seems like something that you are much, much better off not trying to handle yourself.
Re: Please Help
Stop doing what is "favorable" for your cousin. He has done nothing favorable for you. Save yourself. You did not say whether you were charged with a crime or whether you told anybody else besides your cousin that you let him use your identity. Yes, you need to hire a lawyer. But let's analyze the problem for a minute. You are not the one on the store videotape stealing. You let him use your identity, and this could be considered a crime, but it could be your word against his whether you did this, unless you foolishly admit this to the police. If it is not already too late, say nothing to the police except "I want to call my lawyer now."
Re: Please Help
Your exposure here is rather serious. If you are not careful you may either end up with a conviction for theft or other penalties for letting him use your ID. I suggest contacting an attorney immediately.
Re: Please Help
What to do? Straighten out the truth quickly with the police and DA, or risk ending up with a record showing crimes associated with your ID, which will cause you problems the rest of your life. Get a local attorney promptly to help. Feel free to contact me if interested in doing this right, and if you are in Southern California.
