Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Witnessed assault by a green card holder
I was a witness and approached by someone from a federal agency investigating an assault by a green card holder (no permanent damage to the victim, but the green card holder has a history of assaults). The green card holder apparently doesnt know yet about the investigation.
It was inferred by the investigator that if the green card holder went back to his native country, that would end their investigation because there would be nobody to investigate. Otherwise, he could be facing 1 to 20 for what he did.
Is it legal/moral/ethical for me to let the guy know that this investigation is under way? He may want to go back home to avoid the trouble.

That's called the crime of 'aiding and abetting'.
