Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

I have been asked to provide a deposition for the defense, but I am a witness for the plaintiff. Is this legal?

It's not only legal, it's normal. But asking isn't enough, assuming you are not a party to the case they must serve you with a subpoena.

Yes. The defendant has likely been informed by the plaintiff that you are a witness. Therefore, the defendant wants to depose you to find out what you know and what you will say at trial.
