Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

Do we have to mention pregnancy during an interview

My new boss got upset when she found out I was pregnant. She came to me and wanted to know why I didn't mention to her about my pregnancy. Do I have to mention it by law?

Legally, no, you are not required to disclose pregnancy, and the company is not allowed to ask. Nor are they allowed to discriminate or retaliate. If that happens, feel free to contact me to discuss your rights and remedies.

No you don't have to mention it, and the employer may not ask about it before hiring you. California offers several protections to pregnant employees, including guarantees of reinstatement after maternity leave and other issues. She shouldn't be asking you the questions she is asking you - but unless something else happens, you should probably shrug it off as an insensitive and uneducated comment, and let it go. Good luck.
