Re: Sentencing
Mere "possession" itself isn't illegal; unless it's an 'illegal' firearm, or you're a prohibited person, or carrying concealed without permit, or brandishing, or use in a crime, etc. Obviously, if charged with a crime involving 'improper' possession or use, you face at least misdemeanor penalties of up to a year in jail plus fines. A felony charge could be multiple years, depending. If this case is in SoCal, and you get serious about getting legal help, feel free to contact me.
Re: Sentencing
Depends on the type of firearm, whether it was loaded, whether it was concealed, the defendant's criminal history, and how good of a lawyer he has.
