Your friend needs to take care of business and go to his court date. If he doesn't show up, the judge will issue a warrant for his arrest and add new charges for failure to appear.

If he's scared now, THAT will really scare him. The judge will not let you speak because it isn't your case.

The judge will probably give him a couple of weeks to hire a lawyer if he shows up and asks. If he can't afford to hire his own lawyer, the judge will appoint the public defender.
