Legal Question in DUI Law in California
How do I clean up a DUI mess?
In 2001, I was plead no contest to a DUI. I completed the AB762, and the AA mtgs. However, I didn't do the community service hours. I now live in NJ, and found out that I have a $30,000 bench warrant for failure to appear in court. I was told by a court official that as long as I completed the AB762, I didn't have to go to court. Apparently they were mistaken, and I am now a ''no-show.'' What can I do a) to clear my name, b) to pay a fine to make up the commnuity service and c) get my license in NJ all without turning myself in CA and doing jail time? I am on probation, and this happened once before. I missed a court date, and was issued a bench warrant for failure to appear in court. I was sentenced a mandatory 10 days in jail. Also, why is this current warrant so high? Is there mandatory sentencing involved?

Someone has to appear in court - you, or an attorney, and negotiate a 'deal' for you. If the court is in Sourhern Calif, I can do so for you. It may be possible to convince the court to let you complete community serrvice, or pay a fine in lieu -- no guarantees can be given of outcome, since the court is not going to be thrilled with you having a failure to appear a second time. If interested, contact me to discuss facts and fees involved.

The solution is really very simple. You can arrange to do your community service in New Jersey.
I feel certain that between you California attorney and I we can clear up your problem rather qulckly.
