Legal Question in DUI Law in California
DUI While Travelling
I was charged with a DUI on Friday evening. I have never been charged with any offense of any kind so I have no criminal record at all. My court date is April 8th. My question is this...I am a citizen of another country and after living in the United States for a few years I am moving back that country at the end of this month (February). What is the best was for me to deal with this charge prior to me leaving. I have no plans of ever returning to this country, however I would like to do the right thing if it is not going to cost me too much money or too much time (as in classes or community service) seeing as though I don't have much of either.

Re: DUI While Travelling
You might be able to go to court and move up the hearing date because of your situation, but you either deal with it properly before leaving the country [whatever it takes to do so], or you end up with an arrest warrant that will follow you everywhere on your record. It may be possible to negotiate a 'deal' with the DA acceptable to you; all you can do is try. Feel free to contact me if serious about getting the legal help you'll need to accomplish this, if the case is in SoCal courts.
