Legal Question in DUI Law in California

I got a DUI in 2001 so it has been almost 8 years. I read that you can get it expunged but what does that really mean and how would i go about doing so?

Also, I need to provide to the Visa Center that my DUI charges have been cleared (since it's been more than 7 years). How would I do that? Should I contact the court that I got sentenced from?

FYI: I paid all my fee and am not on probation

Thank you

Expungement of DUI is possible. If obtained, it means you get to say 'no' to convictions on most private employment applications. However, records are forever. Yours would then read "conviction reversed by expungement" or words to that effect. It does not magically disappear, and is still there, and will still count as a 'prior' for 10 years. It helps to expunge, so if serious about doing so, feel free to contact me for the legal help you'll need.
