You can hire anattorney to appear for you at the various court dates. A DUI in California takes 3 to 6 months from the initial appeaance to the conclusion. Additionally you MUST send a hearing request to the California DMV within ten days or you will have your licensed suspended AND IT WILL ALSO BE SUSPENDED IN FLORIDA.

A first offense DUI in California has fines from two to four thousand dollars, loss of license for up to six months (which FLorida will enforce) DUI school and up to six months jail.

Misdemeanor charges, like DUI, can be handled by your attorney without you being present in court. You being out of state increases the 'logistical' problems, but all that means is you would have to be in phone contact with your attorney to discuss and agree to any 'deal' he might be able to negotiate with the prosecutor, and then the paperwork for the 'plea' would be mailed, signed, notarized, and mailed back to your attorney. The outcome, and the penalties you face, depend on the charges, the circumstances of the arrest, your blood alcohol level, your rap sheet record, etc. First offenders with clean record can frequently get 'deals' without jail time, but the fines and other penalties mount up. Your attorney's job is to negotiate an 'acceptable' deal to you. If serious about getting legal help, and if this is in Southern California courts, feel free to contact me.
