Handling a DUI case isn't a do it yourself project like fixing a leaky faucet that you can handle with a little advice over the Internet. DUI cases are very complex and you should hire an experienced DUI lawyer if you can afford it.
DMV will automatically suspend your license in an administrative proceeding completely separate from the criminal case. If you want to challenge this suspension, you must request a DMV hearing within ten days of your arrest. If you hire a DUI attorney, he or she should handle this for you.
If you can't afford to hire your own lawyer, ask the judge to appoint the Public Defender when you go to court. Keep in mind that Public Defenders usually don't handle the DMV hearing and it's usually too late to request a hearing by the time your first court date rolls around.
If you don't know how to effectively represent yourself against a DA intending to punish you, then hire an attorney that does. He can use your defenses, facts, arguments, most effectively in plea bargaining, appropriate motions or at trial if necessary. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.
