Whether expunged or not, the conviction is, and remains, on your 'permanent' record / 'rap sheet' to show up on every background / fingerprint check. Expungement does NOT remover, clear, clean, hide, or 'disappear' your criminal record. It merely adds an amendment / update to show the expungement process. There is no 'passing' a fingerprint check, you either have a record or you don't. Whether you 'pass' is up to the prospective employer's qualification standards regarding your criminal background which they will se when they check.

Your 273 conviction 'may' be one that is subject to reduction and expungement under CA law. Doing so may improve your situation with prospective employers. The procedure is to file and serve the appropriate Application and Motion with the convicting court, along with any supporting documents and declarations applicable. You may choose to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney, like one of us here on this panel, to do that for you
